Anchored In God’s Word – Bill Mollinari
Transcript: Hey CBF, welcome to this month’s chapter meeting. I think it’s going to be a great one. I’ve got a question for you here this morning. Got a question for you.
What is the greatest gift you could give somebody? You ever ask yourself that question? Think of the people you love the most in this world. What is the greatest gift that you could give them, that’s within your power to give them?
I believe it’s this: I believe it’s God’s truth. There’s no greater gift that you can give to somebody than God’s truth. God’s truth explains all the big questions of life. How did we get here? Why are we here? What are we supposed to be doing here? What’s going to happen after we’re here?
It really does answer all those questions right here in this book. Think about the countless hours that philosophers have spent on trying to answer those big questions of life apart from God. I don’t say that critically, because before we were in Christ, we were doing the same thing. But the answer really lies in God’s Word.
Now, at CBF we try to do a lot of things to help you. We’re going for business excellence with an eternal perspective. We’re trying to share wisdom with you, the wisdom of experience that people have had and all these different disciplines, all these different functions of business.
We want to give you that gift, if you will, and you give the gift back to us and others when you participate in your CAB. But there’s no greater gift than this, God’s Word.
So what I have to say to you today is this. I just hope that you are in the Word. I hope you believe it. I imagine most of you people do, but I hope you believe it. I hope you believe in the sufficiency of it.
You should know something. All of our teaching is based on we always want to have something anchored in the text. In our discussions at your table, we tell the CAB leaders, bring out Biblical principles on these issues because one of the things you get in Scripture (it’s huge in Proverbs) is all of this practical wisdom that you can use in your daily life and in your daily living.
Billy Graham just passed away. What a life. Would you like to have the crowns that Billy Graham is going to get in the Kingdom? Nobody, because of the difference in technology, will ever speak face-to-face and give the Gospel to more people live than Billy Graham did.
But Billy Graham had a crisis in his life. There’s one crisis that he had in his life, and it was in 1949. Here’s the crisis. He was starting to doubt the inerrancy of Scripture. He had a friend he went to college with who had gone off to Princeton Seminary, who was getting taught liberal theology. He had bought in and was having this influence on Graham.
Graham was struggling with that. Right before his crusade to Los Angeles in 1949 which broke everything open for him, he dealt with that issue. He just got down on his knees and he said, “Lord, I don’t maybe understand everything about the Bible. There’s some tough things here. But I believe the Bible. I’m going to commit myself to the truth and the inerrancy of God’s Word.”
And he did, and his ministry took off – and by the way, that guy who was questioning it left the ministry and he died an atheist.
It says in 2 Timothy 3:16, “All of Scripture is inspired by God and profitable.” You want a business word? It’s profitable – for what? “For teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the man and woman of God could be prepared and be adequate for every good work.”
I hope you really develop a love affair with God’s Word. Not the covers, not the pages, not the ink, but the truth that’s contained in God’s Word. And most importantly, we don’t worship the book; we worship the person of the book, which is our Lord Jesus Christ.
I just want to challenge you with that today. Be in the Word on your own. It’s not enough to be under it. You need to be under it, but you need to be in it yourself, okay? Have a great time at your chapter meeting today.
